5 Thoughtful & Fun Christmas Gift Ideas For Her

With the holidays upon us, do you find yourself scouring the web for a special gift for a new mother? An expectant mother? Or a more seasoned mother? If so, I write this post to help you identify some unique and useful Christmas gift ideas for her, although they pretty much work any time of year and for any gift-giving occasion.

Admittedly, I have never felt like I am very good at choosing Christmas gifts for the moms on my list. Mothers have a demanding set of priorities that are constantly shifting as their children age. Mothers must inevitably acquire new interests and eliminate others that no longer suit their lifestyles. As such, I never wanted to give something that would unnecessarily clutter, interrupt, complicate, or otherwise inconvenience her life. Read on for Christmas gift ideas for her.

As a mother of twins, I can better appreciate the small conveniences, thoughtful gestures, and useful tools that can make a mother smile. While browsing for inspiration this year, a time when my close circle includes more moms than ever before, I collected the following fun and thoughtful gift ideas for her.

Grow and Make

Vanilla Cupcake Soap Making Kit

If you know a crafty mom who loves a fun, do-it-yourself (DIY) project, Grow and Make offers a large number of DIY kits for making candles, chocolate, bath salts, soap, wine, body lotion, lip balm, and chai, to name a few.

What I like most about this gift is that mothers who have little helpers and curious kids at home can use these kits as a source for family entertainment, providing a chance to bond over a joint project. In this way, it’s a win-win for mom and kids!

Stitch Fix

Stitch Fix is great for stylish moms who do not have a lot of time to shop for themselves or simply want some assistance in identifying new, on-trend pieces to incorporate into their wardrobe or wear to a special event. It works for expectant mothers too!

For just $20, the stylists at Stitch Fix will put together a personalized box containing five items for the recipient to try on in the comfort of her own home. Stitch Fix allows three days for clients to decide what items will be purchased and which items will be returned.

The return envelope is pre-paid and included in the box, along with some cards that highlight the pieces in the box and show ways to wear them with other items in most women’s closets. The $20 styling fee is applied towards any items purchased, and if the recipient keeps all five items, she gets a 20% discount on the order. In the event the recipient does not like any of the items, she loses the $20 styling fee.

My mom friends turned me onto this service, and I have to say it is exciting to receive a personalized box full of mystery clothing. I also like that you can schedule a “fix” when you want one, so there is no pressure to sign up for a recurring, monthly service. With my first box, I kept two items; I have a friend who has purchased all five items on more than one occasion because she loved her customized pieces so much.

The key to receiving items you like is to provide the stylists with as much information and specific guidance as you can about your style (and budget) preferences. When you set up your free account, you must complete a thorough questionnaire that is aimed at giving the stylists a stronger sense of your fashion likes and dislikes. You can also link your free Stitch Fix account to your Facebook or Pinterest pages to give the stylists a better visual of your personal style.

Bulu Box

If you know a mom who is trying to better her health and/or lose weight, you may consider buying her a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription to Bulu Box. Bulu Box is a discovery service focused on health, nutrition and weight loss products. Their product inventory includes healthy snacks, sleep aids, fat-burners, energy aids, kitchen tools, even workout DVDs and fitness gear.

Instead of spending money on health, nutrition and weight loss products she may not like, for just $10 (or less if you go with a 12-month subscription), Bulu Box creates a custom box for the month that are filled with 4 to 5 samples from top brands. The samples are large enough to allow her to decide if the product is right for her before purchasing the full-size product. Shipping is always free, and the service can be canceled at any time.

Bulu Box also encourages clients to review each product through sample surveys, offering rewards points for feedback. These rewards points work like currency and can be applied towards a purchase at BuluBox.com. A customer can also earn rewards points each time she makes a purchase, so she could potentially receive a new sample box for free every month.

You can purchase a Bulu Box gift card here.

21 Day Fix

Bluum

Bluum is another neat product discovery service; this one was created with new moms in mind. They deliver a personalized box to her door every month that contains relevant products for her child’s age, gender, and developmental stage. Bluum uses customer reviews to maintain an inventory of products that moms welcome.

Bluum boxes cover moms starting from pregnancy and children from birth to age five, but I wish I had known about Bluum when my twins were younger. It is a great way to check out the newest, safest products for moms and babies without having to leave the house! When moms set up a Bluum account, they can check off the milestones that their children have reached to make sure they receive the products they need at the right time.

Surprises for mom are included in Bluum boxes, so this is another win-win gift idea for mom and kids.

Beachbody

A gift card or workout program from Beachbody is another great gift idea for a mom who wants to get fit and healthy, has little extra time, and is open to exercising inside the comfort of her own home. Beachbody is the company responsible for best-selling programs like P90X, Insanity Max, Focus T25, and 21 Day Fix.

Tony Horton's 10-Minute Trainer Personally, I have the 21 Day Fix Extreme program at home, one I first started this summer in preparation for a vacation to the Florida Keys. I loved it because it was challenging despite my regular visits to the gym, the exercises vary each day of the week, the workouts only last 30 minutes, and, best of all, the accompanying nutritional education I gained from it is hands-down the most usable (and affordable) lesson in nutrition I have ever received.

I could share a lot more about my experience with the program, but that is another post for another day. Based on my experience, the Beachbody programs work, and they are a convenient option when you cannot leave your house often enough to get a workout in.

For a busy mom who wants to get fit and stay that way, a Beachbody program or gift card is a practical gift that she is likely to enjoy. Check out Team Beachbody here.

Amazon

Because it is not the most original idea, I do not count Amazon in my list of five thoughtful and fun gift ideas for her; however, the gift of an Amazon membership or an Amazon gift card is a very practical gift option when you don’t know the mother well. If you would rather go for something more thoughtful than a gift card, you could consider giving the gift of Amazon Prime, which provides members with free two-day shipping on millions of items for 12 months. With an Amazon Prime membership, you also get instant streaming of movies and TV shows, and unlimited ad-free access to over a million songs and hundreds of playlists. Not a bad way to help out a mom on Christmas, if I do say so myself.

Hopefully, you have found my list of suggestions helpful in your efforts to find the perfect gift for the moms in your life. If you have any additional ideas that would be great for this list, please leave them in a comment below.

Happy, healthy gift-giving!

Super love these ideas, Carmen! So unique! Having someone pick out clothes and accessories for you is wonderful! I hardly shop for myself anymore, unless I really need something. And I also love the personalized box for your bub based on their developmental milestones. Great ideas, moms would love these for sure! 🙂

Hi Raquel! Thank you for your comment. I agree there are some unique, convenient ideas that most moms would like and use. If you are able to order Stitch Fix for yourself, I recommend trying it out at least once. I have a great pair of corduroy pants and a beautiful top that I never would have found for myself. I have yet to try Bluum, but I think it’s a great idea for moms – stay tuned for my future review!

You have a lot of great ideas on this post. I personally need to buy something for my mother and I think she would really like Grow And Make. We always would do arts and crafts when I was younger and know she would like to make chocolate and candles. I will be looking into it as well as the Bulu Box. Thanks for the information!

Hello, and thank you for your comment. Grow and Make definitely sounds like a great match for your crafty mom! I didn’t mention it in the post, but they also make great DIY kits for men. The nice thing about Bulu Box is they are great for anyone who wants to try new, popular health and wellness products, not just moms. Happy, healthy gift-hunting to you!

Great ideas on this site. You have for sure done your research. I have a few new MOM cousins who would love some of these ideas. I think this is a great site for men to check out for their Moms, girlfriends, and wives. You covered them all in this one site. Thank you for taking the time to put all the good ones in the same place.

Hello, Gee! Thank you for your kind comment. I am pleased you find my list helpful. I do hope this will help some men find great gifts for the women in their lives. I didn’t explicitly mention them, but there are ideas that are certainly applicable for girlfriends, wives, and grandmothers too. 🙂

Very nice recommendations of gifts to give moms. Your comment “As such, I never wanted to give something that would unnecessarily clutter, interrupt, complicate, or otherwise inconvenience her life.” is spot on. As moms, we don’t have much time to take care of ourselves or even look into ways to take care of our little ones. My favorite thing on your page is the Stitch Fix, which I had never heard of but will definitely try. What a great idea! Thanks for the info. 🙂

Hi Shannon, thank you for your comment and feedback. It is great to know there are other like-minded mothers out there. Time and convenience are so important to a mom! I am happy to have introduced a new gift idea for yourself – Stitch Fix is really neat, but it can be addictive. Consider yourself warned. 🙂

Very creative ideas for a great Christmas gift! I love the way you focus on making the gift fun and healthy for moms. Also another thing that I have to mention is that none of them requires much time to complete them. While other gift suggestions like make-up and accessories are nothing new, your post stands up to these more common gift ideas. Well done, my friend.

Some great gift ideas here. I wish I had found this before Christmas, it definitely would have made buying Christmas presents for my fiancee much easier! I have used P90X3 and Insanity from BeachBody in the past and although they do give good results I found them pretty hard to sustain purely because of the intensity of the workouts, are the 10-minute body workouts more bearable?

    All the best, Dave

    • January 25, 2016 at 12:45 pm

Hello Dave, thank you for your great comment! Christmas is long gone, but there’s always Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries… This gift list really works any time of year! You are right that Beachbody’s programs are designed to give you results, and you won’t see change without a challenge. I recently tried Tony Horton’s 10-minute core workout and was sore the next day, even though I have been working on plenty of other core-strengthening moves. I think the key difference is that MOST anyone who is serious about exercise can survive 10 minutes! What I did not expect was to feel a challenge in just 10 minutes – it’s a great option for busy moms. 🙂

These are super cool ideas for the most part.
The Grow and Make sounds like a fun time, even for a group of girls having a girls night.
Stitch Fix sounds cool too, I love the outfit in the photo.
Monthly boxes are always a cool idea also.
When I look for gifts, I always check Amazon and Ebay because it’s fun to look around!

    • January 25, 2016 at 12:54 pm

Hi Gina, thanks for your comment. I hadn’t thought of a Grow and Make party – I agree that could be a great activity for a moms’ night in! Stitch Fix is a lot of fun. I am actually waiting on a box this week in hopes to find some new pieces before our Disney vacation. With all the snow we received this week, Stitch Fix is a convenient alternative to shopping at the mall. Happy, healthy gift shopping to you!

Very informative page and I love the layout. I enjoyed how you offered a variety of options and I feel like this would be a very good page to leave open on my boyfriends computer if and when we have kids in the future. I also liked how you mentioned you used some of the products yourself, it made your suggestions seem more genuine and trustworthy.

    • February 16, 2016 at 11:02 am

Hi Brittny, thank you for your kind comment. I am pleased you found some useful information in this post. If your boyfriend is quick to take a hint, I think your idea would work. 🙂 Fortunately, these gift ideas for her are not just for moms – busy women everywhere could use the convenience of a stylist or at-home exercises.

I appreciate your feedback on my approach to product recommendations too. I certainly feel more comfortable talking about the services and products I know, and I would never endorse a product I wouldn’t consider using myself. That is a Fit4Twins policy. Happy, healthy product hunting to you!
